Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker 2027
On New Year's morning, the Musikverein's Goldener Saal becomes the most coveted drawing room on the planet: a broadcast followed in dozens of countries and an audience mixing chancelleries, great families and the orchestra's patrons. The 2027 edition is entrusted for the first time to Tugan Sokhiev. Two further concerts extend the event, the Voraufführung on 30 December 2026 at 11:00 and the Silvesterkonzert on 31 December 2026 at 19:30.

How to get in
Wiener Philharmoniker — allocation exclusively through the official ballot, no other recognised channel
Online ballot on the Wiener Philharmoniker website: entry for the 2026/2027 turn-of-the-year concerts has been closed since 28 February 2026. Seats from €40 to €1,320 for 1 January 2027, from €30 to €980 for the Silvesterkonzert on 31 December 2026, from €25 to €545 for the Voraufführung on 30 December 2026. No seats are sold at the box office or through agencies.
The turnkey stay
On 1 January 2027 at 11:15, the Musikverein's Goldener Saal opens for the Neujahrskonzert of the Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted for the first time by Tugan Sokhiev. Fewer than two thousand seats, allocated by ballot — the application window for the 2026/27 edition closed on 28 February 2026 —, facing the fifty million viewers in more than 150 countries who will follow the same Blue Danube from their screens. Around that morning, Vienna fits into a handkerchief: the Ring and its palaces turned grand hotels, the Lipizzaners of the Hofburg, and Austria's only two three-star tables — both Viennese.

- Hotel Imperial, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna — Palace built from 1862 to 1865 for Duke Philipp von Württemberg, inaugurated as a hotel on 28 April 1873 for the Vienna World's Fair, in the presence of Franz Joseph and Elisabeth. Kärntner Ring 16, about three minutes' walk from the Musikverein, which stands just behind the hotel. Five stars, 79 rooms and 59 suites, concierge service and butlers, and on the ground floor the Café Imperial, home of the Imperial Torte. Owned by Al Habtoor, operated by Marriott under The Luxury Collection banner.
- Hotel Sacher Wien — Opened in 1876, Philharmoniker Straße 4, just behind the State Opera and a few minutes' walk from the Musikverein. 3 Michelin Keys. Where to dine
- Steirereck — Three stars in the Guide Michelin Austria 2025 — one of only two three-star tables in the country, along with Amador, also Viennese. The house of Heinz Reitbauer, chef de cuisine since 2005, joined since September 2023 by Michael Bauböck as co-chef de cuisine. A glass pavilion set in the heart of the Stadtpark, Am Heumarkt 2a, a short walk from the Musikverein. Reservation essential.
- Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant, Palais Coburg — Two Michelin stars and five Gault&Millau toques claimed by the house, with chef Silvio Nickol at the helm: French elegance, Asian nuances, Austrian produce. Evenings only, Tuesday to Saturday, arrival between 18:30 and 20:00, reservation compulsory, at the Palais Coburg — a private guest house —, Coburgbastei 4, a few streets from the Musikverein. Several weeks of annual closure in winter and in August: check the dates before fixing the stay.
What to experience
- Visite guidée de la Salle dorée du Musikverein — Return to the Great Hall when empty, the day before the concert or two days after: the official Musikverein tour leads through the Großer Saal — caryatids, painted ceiling, crystal chandeliers, great organ — then the Brahms-Saal. In German or English only, tickets from €6. Not on Sundays or public holidays, so not on 1 January. For more than eight people, the house arranges a private tour by appointment. Book bearing in mind the official warning: the Musikverein is not a museum but a living hall, and a tour may be moved or cancelled because of a rehearsal — which is common around the Neujahrskonzert.
- Morgenarbeit des lipizzans, Spanische Hofreitschule — An hour in the baroque winter riding school of the Hofburg, Michaelerplatz 1, where the Lipizzaner stallions carry out their daily training to music — from young horses still dark-coated to the accomplished "white stars". Session from 10:00 to 11:00, about 60 minutes; an extra session at 11:30 only on certain days (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and some Wednesdays). Admission fifteen minutes before the start. Tickets from €18 (standing) to €29 (1st category). The airs above the ground are only rarely shown during the Morgenarbeit.
