The Radar Score

Every event on the radar carries a score out of 100. Here is the full scale, published in its entirety: what the score measures, and what it does not claim to measure.

A restaurant has its stars, a palace has its ranking. Events had nothing: the Radar Score fills that gap. It measures the buzz around an event: how hard it is to get in, who shows up, where it is held, and how imminent it is.

We score the door, not the party

The Score does not judge whether an evening was a success: no one can know that without having been there, and the radar never claims to know what it has not verified. It measures what can be documented: what an event demands, publishes and promises. This is the principle behind rating agencies: read the facts. Feeling has no place in the formula.

Four criteria, weights fully assumed

• Exclusivity of access (weight 4). Tickets open to all, invitation only, a list kept by the house: the selection at the door, the published prices, the capacity.
• Personalities expected (weight 3). Who attends, who organizes, who lends their name, based on documented previous editions.
• The venue (weight 2). A century-old palace, a private mansion closed to the public, a privatized beach: a venue's standing is a fact.
• Proximity of the date (weight 1). An event underway scores the maximum; a distant event awaits its turn. This criterion is recalculated with every update to the site: the Score breathes with the calendar.

The weighted sum makes the Score, out of 100. The Prestige Ranking on the home page orders every event by this same score: a single formula, from top to bottom of the site.

The diamonds

The score also reads in diamonds: ✦✦✦✦✦ from 88, ✦✦✦✦ from 76, ✦✦✦ from 62, ✦✦ from 48, ✦ below.

What the Score will still learn

The Radar Memory records booking windows and observed sell-outs. "Sold out in two hours" is a measure of buzz that no formula can replace: year after year, these readings will refine the access criterion. And when the editors themselves walk through the doors, the listing will carry the note "experienced and verified on site."
