The world's most prestigious art and antiques fair: some 270 dealers from more than 20 countries, seven thousand years of art history under one roof, and curators from the Met, the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum among its most assiduous visitors. The invitation-only previews on 11 and 12 March draw collectors and museums; the public follows from 13 to 18 March.

How to get in

Two genuine official gateways: the TEFAF Press Office (Magda Grigorian, Global Head of Communications; Mirthe Sportel, PR & Communications Coordinator, +31 20 30 36 436) handles media accreditation via the "Press Portal Access" form at tefaf.com/press/press-access. For collectors/VIPs: Head of Collectors & Museums (Paul van den Biesen, +31 20 30 36 403) or info@tefaf.com for the VIP programme and by-invitation preview days.

The turnkey stay

A week where seven thousand years of art history are negotiated between the display cases of the MECC and the hushed salons of the historic centre's hotels. Maastricht, a border town between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, curls up for the duration of TEFAF in its medieval lanes and along the Meuse: dealers, curators and collectors cross paths between a discreet lunch and an invitation-only preview. Ideal base: the historic heart a few steps from the MECC, or a listed château on the outskirts for something exceptional.

Where to stay

  • Kruisherenhotel Maastricht : A 15th-century Gothic monastery converted into a 5-star design hotel in the heart of the old town, a stone's throw from the MECC; reopening after renovation scheduled for October 2026, ahead of the 2027 edition.
  • Château Neercanne : A 17th-century terraced château, a member of Relais & Châteaux, with seven suites, listed baroque gardens and a vaulted cellar, an address outside the city walls for an exceptional stay near Maastricht.

Where to dine

  • Restaurant Château Neercanne : One Michelin star, chef Robert Levels, refined French cuisine served in the château's vaulted cellars or its historic dining room.
  • Spencer's Restaurant & Bar : The Kruisherenhotel's iconic dining room, set in the monastery's former Gothic church, reinvented French cuisine beneath vaulted ceilings and stained-glass windows.

What to experience

  • Visite privée des grottes Nord et de la Kluis : A private tour of the Sint Pietersberg's underground network, ending at the vault where Rembrandt's Night Watch was sheltered during the Second World War, an underground nod to art history.
  • Croisière privée sur la Meuse : Private charter of a Rederij Stiphout boat for a floating dinner or cocktail reception, with views of the bridges and illuminated old Maastricht. Enquire with Stiphout's Groups & Events department (info@stiphout.nl, +31 43 35 15 300) rather than the public ticket office.
